Trackwell is proud to announce the successful deployment of its Vessel Monitoring System (VMS) and Electronic Reporting System (ERS), implemented through the Trackwell FiMS platform, for the Government of Ukraine, strengthening the country’s participation in international fisheries monitoring and control.
This collaboration marks an important step for Ukraine as it connects to the Regional Fisheries Management Organizations (RFMOs), NEAFC (North East Atlantic Fisheries Commission) and NAFO (Northwest Atlantic Fisheries Organization).
By adopting Trackwell’s advanced technology, Ukraine joins the growing network of nations sharing real-time data to ensure transparency and sustainable fisheries management.
Building Digital Connectivity and RFMO Compliance Across Borders
At the request of the Ukrainian authorities, Trackwell established the necessary communication links between Ukrainian-flagged vessels and NEAFC and NAFO monitoring systems. Acting on behalf of Ukraine, Trackwell configured, deployed, and tested the infrastructure to ensure full compliance with RFMO data exchange standards.
The project includes the installation of Trackwell FiMS’ eLog, electronic logbook software and configuration of secure data forwarding channels from vessels to Trackwell’s servers, which then transmit verified fisheries data to international monitoring systems. This enables Ukraine to report their activities in real time, ensuring compliance and improved traceability.
Efficient, Modern, and Fully Compliant Monitoring
To meet international standards, each participating vessel is equipped with a comprehensive hardware and software suite:
- Satellite Tracking: Devices reporting hourly positions automatically to Trackwell servers.
- Onboard Computing: Windows-based systems running the specialized Trackwell eLog application.
- Secure Connectivity: Communication protocols meeting NEAFC and NAFO security standards.
Trackwell’s team completed remote installations, coordinated Inmarsat communications, and provided training for vessel captains and operators to ensure smooth operation and accurate reporting. After full end-to-end testing, the system is now active, transmitting validated data to the international authorities.
